Last week, Tri-County baseball star Ray Evans took the crown in the Daily News Boys Athlete of the Week poll for April 27-May 3, earning nearly 25% of over 400 votes. His complete-game gem—allowing just one hit and striking out nine in a 3-2 win over Blue Hills, plus a hit and an RBI—was enough to edge out Algonquin's Quinn Lacasse.
Now, it's time to turn the page to another thrilling week of high school sports. The polls are open for the Daily News Boys Athlete of the Week for May 4-10, and the competition is fierce. Here are the standout candidates who delivered unforgettable performances:
Jayden Alvarez & Brady Sacca, Assabet Valley lacrosse: This dynamic duo each lit up the scoreboard with four goals, powering a 13-5 victory over Minuteman.
Finn Bell, Wayland volleyball: A force at the net, Bell smashed 36 kills and added four blocks in a 3-2 thriller against Milford, then followed up with 17 kills and two blocks in a sweep of Westford Academy.
Michael Chagnon, Framingham baseball: Clutch doesn't begin to describe it. Chagnon crushed a walk-off triple in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat Milton 7-6, and also tossed 2⅔ innings of shutout relief with six strikeouts.
Luke Danielson, Lincoln-Sudbury baseball: A 2-for-5 day at the plate, including a home run and four RBIs, helped his team roll past Melrose 16-6.
Luke Dratch, Natick volleyball: The setter was a maestro, dishing out 34 assists with two kills, two blocks, and an ace in a sweep of Weymouth, then adding 28 assists, four aces, three blocks, and a kill against Medfield.
Kyle Fetrow, Holliston lacrosse: Fetrow found the net four times, leading his team to an 11-5 win over Wayland.
Luis Franco, Marlborough volleyball: Franco orchestrated the offense with 38 assists in a dominant 3-0 win over Shrewsbury.
Max Gaudette, Hudson lacrosse: A four-goal, one-assist performance powered a 17-4 rout of Bay Path.
Voting is open until noon Monday, so make your voice heard and help decide who takes home this week's top honor. Which athlete's performance stood out most to you?
