The TSSAA spring sports playoffs are heating up, and Week 10 delivered some unforgettable performances across the Columbia area. From dominant pitching to explosive batting and track speed, these student-athletes left it all on the field. Now it's your turn to decide who takes home The Daily Herald's boys Athlete of the Week honors for May 4-9.
First up, Nolan Horvath of Battle Creek was simply untouchable on the mound. He fired a complete-game shutout against Creek Wood, striking out 11 batters while allowing just four hits in an 8-0 victory. That's the kind of performance that wins championships.
Jack Beck of Columbia Central showed off his power at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Even in an 11-7 loss to Nolensville, Beck's bat kept his team in the fight.
Bracyn Rose of Lawrence County had a day to remember, launching three home runs and driving in five runs on a 3-for-5 day. His power surge powered a 12-5 win over Battle Creek.
Over on the soccer pitch, Noah Moss of Richland was a dual threat. He scored a goal and added two assists in a 6-0 shutout of Mt. Pleasant, then followed it up with another goal and assist in a 4-2 win over Loretto.
Nathan Highland of Spring Hill brought the speed to the track, winning the 100-meter dash at the Class 2A Middle Section meet with a blazing 10.70 seconds. He also took first in the 200 meters at 22.13 seconds.
Finally, Jack Handley of Zion Christian made the most of his at-bats, going 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs in a 16-1 blowout win over Legacy.
