It's time to cast your vote for the Boys Athlete of the Week, featuring standout performances from April 27 to May 3. Last week's winner, Old Rochester's Malik Washburn, dominated with over 3,000 votes (57%) after setting a school record in the 110 hurdles (14.31 seconds) at the Mercury Games Invitational—a time that ranks No. 1 in the state. He also tied his own school record in the triple jump (43-10) for a second-place finish. Previous winners include Old Colony's Rowan Caulkins, New Bedford's Jonah Wahnon, and Old Rochester's Chase DeMello.
In other preseason polls, New Bedford's Logan Alves claimed Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year with over 38,000 votes (44%), while GNB Voc-Tech's Chace Garcia took Boys Volleyball Player of the Year with more than 3,000 votes (55%).
This week's nominees feature a mix of tennis stars, high-scoring lacrosse players, and track standouts. On the track, Baptiste led the charge against GNB Voc-Tech with first-place finishes in the long jump and 100 meters. Robert-Howley won the mile and 2-mile, while Thorell took top honors in the high jump and 400 meters. Washburn continued his hot streak, placing first in the 110 hurdles and triple jump. Against South Shore Voc-Tech, Pires swept the shot put, javelin, and discus, while Potter dominated the high jump, 110 hurdles, and 200 meters.
In volleyball, Garcia notched a combined 56 assists in two matches, adding 6 digs against Southeastern. Monteiro contributed 16 kills and 19 digs over two matches, with 3 blocks against Southeastern. Paquette tallied 18 kills in two games, including 5 digs against Southeastern. Rodriguez racked up 52 assists in three matches, with 14 service points and 9 digs against Randolph.
On the lacrosse field, Barriga scored a team-high 5 goals in a win over Dartmouth, while Procaccini posted 4 goals and 1 assist over two games.
