Which Mohawk Valley athlete was the top performer for the third week of 2026 spring high school sports competition?

The spring sports season is heating up in Mohawk Valley, and we're back with another exciting round of Athlete of the Week voting for April 13-19. This marks the third week of interscholastic competition, and the talent on display has been nothing short of spectacular.

After two weeks of fierce voting, New Hartford softball star Lexi Mungari and Rome Free Academy baseball standout Donte Sparace claimed the top honors. Now, it's time for a fresh batch of nominees to step up to the plate.

This week's ballot features 11 standout athletes from area baseball, softball, and lacrosse teams. The poll will remain open until Friday, May 8, at noon, giving fans plenty of time to cast their votes and support their local heroes.

Our sports department, in collaboration with coaches and athletic directors, has compiled this list based on submissions and performance highlights. If you notice a top performer missing from the lineup, encourage their coach or athletic director to send nominations to sports@timestelegram.com or sports@uticaod.com.

Voting closes Friday, and the winner will be announced later that day on TimesTelegram.com and UticaOD.com. Last week's winners were chosen by readers, and this week promises even more drama and excitement.

Let's take a closer look at this week's nominees:

Ellie Freeth, Hamilton softball – This junior pitcher has been dominant, striking out 42 batters over 20 innings while shutting out Waterville and West Canada Valley. The Emerald Knights are off to a 4-0 start, and Freeth has also contributed offensively with a home run, a triple, and seven RBIs. As the reigning 2025 Class D state champions, Hamilton looks poised for another deep run.

Amelia Furbeck, Rome Free Academy lacrosse – The senior attacker made her mark in the Black Knights' first win of the season, scoring six goals and adding two assists against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill. Her leadership and scoring touch have been crucial for RFA's early-season success.

George Garrett Jr., Proctor baseball – This junior has been a force at the plate, helping the Raiders secure three wins to start Section III and Tri-Valley League play. Garrett went 6-for-9 with three walks, three doubles, eight RBIs, and six runs. In one standout game against Central Valley Academy, he crushed a home run and two triples.

Bella Goodhines, Frankfort-Schuyler softball – The junior pitcher has been nearly untouchable, tossing three shutouts and allowing just a single run as the Maroon Knights won their first four games. Her control and composure on the mound have been key to the team's hot start.

These athletes are proving that spring sports in Mohawk Valley are alive and well. Whether you're a fan of baseball, softball, or lacrosse, there's no shortage of talent to celebrate. So, cast your vote, show your support, and help us crown the next Athlete of the Week!
