It's time to shine a spotlight on the best of Oklahoma's spring sports! The Landmark Fine Homes High School Boys Athlete of the Week poll for May 4-10 is now open, and we've got a stellar lineup of nominees who delivered unforgettable performances on the diamond, the track, and the pitch.
Last week's winner was Cashion track star Grayson Davis, and the competition is heating up. This week, we're focusing on baseball, soccer, and track, as golf and tennis took a breather. Let's meet the contenders who made their mark:
Baseball Heroes
Jake Henderson, a freshman from Okarche, stepped up big time as the Class A-I Warriors claimed their first spring championship. In the semifinals, he crushed two three-run homers in an 11-0 rout of Amber-Pocasset, finishing the state tournament with eight RBIs. Talk about a clutch debut!
Brendon Voss, a junior from Calumet, was unstoppable at the plate. He went 2-for-2 in a quarterfinal win, added two RBIs in the semifinals, and then smashed a crucial three-run homer in the championship game to help the Chieftains secure their first spring title. A true game-changer.
Soccer Stars
Camden Bruce, a senior from Christian Heritage, lit up the scoreboard with five goals in a 7-0 playoff win over Kingfisher. That's a performance that will be remembered for years.
Jack White, a senior from Norman, delivered when it mattered most. He scored the game-winner in overtime against Bixby in the Class 6A quarterfinals, adding another goal earlier in the playoffs. Clutch doesn't even begin to describe it.
Track Titans
Isaac Anderson, a junior from Oklahoma Christian School, dominated the Class 3A state meet, winning the 800 meters (1:56.05) and the 3,200 meters (9:34.87), while also placing sixth in the 1,600. A true distance powerhouse.
Henry Bair, a junior from Classen SAS, showed his endurance by winning both the 1,600 and 3,200 at the Edmond North Regional with impressive times.
Isaiah Blevins, a senior from Guthrie, took first in the 1,600 (4:32.58) and second in the 3,200 (10:06.23) at the Chickasha Regional, proving he's a force to be reckoned with.
These athletes have given us plenty to cheer about this spring. Now it's your turn to vote for the one who stood out the most. Cast your ballot and celebrate the spirit of high school sports!
