Washington, Tremont and IVC athletes are among those up for the Journal Star high school boys athlete of the week.

It was another thrilling week of high school sports, and we've got some standout performances to celebrate. The Journal Star boys athlete of the week nominees for May 4-9, presented by CEFCU, are ready for your vote.

Head to www.pjstar.com/sports to cast your ballot before the poll closes at noon Friday. Last week's winner was Ryder Rennette of the Dunlap baseball team, and the competition is just as fierce this time around.

Let's meet the nominees who made their mark on the field, on the track, and in the circle.

First up, we have Washington's senior pitcher, Foster, who delivered a performance for the ages. Foster tossed a no-hitter in a 10-0 nonconference win over Bloomington on Saturday, May 9. He struck out 15 batters and walked just one, facing only one over the minimum in the seven-inning contest. With 100 pitches thrown—70 of them strikes—Foster helped the Panthers improve to 20-9 on the season.

Over at Tremont, senior Meeker was a force at the plate and on the mound. He came just a single shy of the cycle in an 8-1 win over Illini Bluffs on Saturday, May 9. Meeker doubled in the third, crushed a two-run home run in the fifth, and drove home a pair with a triple in the sixth. He finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Not done yet, he entered to pitch and recorded a save, facing six batters and striking out five on just 20 pitches. The Turks (24-2) are riding an impressive 11-game win streak.

IVC's senior Duhs was a four-event winner last week, showing his versatility on the track. At the Illini Prairie Conference Meet on Tuesday, May 5, he won the 800-meter run in 1 minute, 57.94 seconds. He also anchored the 4x800-meter relay, teaming with Colter Hedden, Cullan Fahrenkrug, and Reece Fraikes to finish in 8:17.27. At the Deer Creek-Mackinaw Invite on Friday, May 8, Duhs ran a season-best 4:37.30 in the 1600-meter run and anchored the 4x8 relay as IVC improved its time by nearly 11 seconds to 8:06.80.

Finally, sophomore Peterson of Washington swept the throws with dominant performances. At the Bloomington Raider Relays on Thursday, May 7, he won the shot put with a throw of 58 feet, 7.25 inches—his 10th victory in the event this season. Peterson also claimed the discus with a toss of 173-1 for his ninth win this season. He currently holds the top distances in both events, proving he's a rising star to watch.

Don't miss your chance to vote for this week's top athlete. And if you know a deserving nominee, email us at sports@pjstar.com or tag us on X @pjstarsports. The action never stops, and we can't wait to see who takes the crown next!
