Athletes from Wylie, Coahoma, Stamford, Albany, Abilene High, Jim Ned, Gordon, Hamlin, Cisco, May and Cross Plains are up for this week's honors.

The 2026 Texas high school baseball and softball seasons are heating up, and the Big Country's finest athletes delivered unforgettable performances last week. From clutch hits to dominant pitching, these young stars left it all on the field, earning nominations for the City National Bank Athlete of the Week, presented by the Abilene Reporter-News.

Each week, the Reporter-News accepts nominations and releases a select group of finalists for this prestigious honor. Students in any varsity sport are eligible, but there's a twist: athletes can only win once per season per sport, and no school can claim the title more than three weeks in a row. The poll closes at 5 p.m. Friday, with the winner announced shortly after. Nominations for next week are due by 7 p.m. Saturday—send stats and details to sports@reporternews.com or Andrew.McCulloch@reporternews.com.

Now, let's meet this week's standout candidates, listed in alphabetical order:

Barron powered the Lady Buffs past Hermleigh in the 1A UIL Softball Playoffs regional semifinals, going 4-for-6 at the plate with six RBIs, two runs scored, three walks, a double, and a home run. That's the kind of production that turns a series around.

Clemmer put on a hitting clinic for the Bulldogettes during their three-game regional semifinals battle against Holliday. She went 8-for-14 with 10 RBIs, two runs scored, two home runs, a double, a sac fly, and even took a hit-by-pitch—showing grit and power at the plate.

Cochran delivered a masterpiece on the mound for Cisco in a 2-0 win over Forsan in Game 1 of their best-of-three area round series. He tossed seven shutout innings, striking out nine while allowing just one hit and one walk. That's the definition of a game-changer.

Corpus was a workhorse for the Lady Loboes, pitching every inning of their regional semifinals sweep over Abernathy. Over 14 innings, she racked up 11 strikeouts and allowed just five earned runs. At the plate, she added seven RBIs, a run scored, and two doubles—proving she's a dual threat.

These athletes represent the heart of Big Country sports, and their performances this week deserve your vote. Cast your ballot before Friday to honor their hard work and dedication.
