Baseball Stars Shine Bright

First up is Fenton of Brandon Valley, who was nearly impossible to get out all week. The junior went 7-for-11 at the plate, smacking three doubles and a triple while driving in four runs and scoring seven times. His hot bat helped the team split a pair of games against Sioux Falls Lincoln and dominate two games against Huron.

Jacobson of Jefferson powered his team to a perfect 5-0 week, surging up the Class A standings. The senior was 9-for-19 with four RBIs and three runs scored, then backed it up with two relief appearances, allowing just two hits and striking out two while earning a win.

Schlimgen of O'Gorman helped his squad go 4-3 with a monster week at the plate. He went 9-for-25, collecting a double, two triples, seven RBIs, and five runs scored, showing patience with five walks.

Sonnichsen of Jefferson had a week for the ages, excelling both at the plate and on the mound. The junior went 9-for-18 with two doubles, a triple, a home run, nine runs scored, and four stolen bases. On the bump, he tossed 6.1 innings, earning a win and a save while striking out 12 batters.

Track & Field Dominance

Reilly of O'Gorman was a double winner at the Sioux Falls Metro Conference meet, topping the competition in both the 800-meter and 1,600-meter races. He edged out last week's Athlete of the Week, Mikah Peters, by just 0.61 seconds in the 800, finishing in 1:55.17, then won the 1,600 by three seconds with a time of 4:14.92.
