Mississippi's girls high school sports scene was buzzing with standout performances from April 27 through May 2, and now it's time to recognize the best of the best. The Clarion Ledger is calling on fans to cast their votes for the Athlete of the Week, celebrating the incredible talent and determination shown on the track, softball field, and beyond.

From lightning-fast sprints to powerful home runs, these athletes left it all out there. Zaurie Clark of Meridian blazed to victory in the MHSAA 7A 100-meter dash with a scorching time of 11.93 seconds, proving speed is her superpower. Meanwhile, Graycin Higginbotham of Hernando dominated the softball diamond, racking up four hits—including two home runs and three RBIs—to power her team to two wins over Clinton.

Distance runners also shined, with Alex Lee of Madison Central pulling off a double win in the MHSAA 7A 1600 meters (5:10.61) and the 3200 meters (11:13.59), showcasing endurance and grit. Over in Kossuth, Caliann Mitchell made a statement with two home runs and seven RBIs in a pair of victories against Choctaw County. And Hannah Robertson of South Panola delivered a clutch performance with a home run and six RBIs to help her team sweep Lake Cormorant.
