It's the final showdown of the school year, and the stakes have never been higher! This week, 22 standout Southwest Florida girls athletes are competing for the title of Athlete of the Week, sponsored by MY Shower Door. Not only will the winner earn bragging rights, but they'll also take home a commemorative T-shirt from BSN Sports and a stylish tote bag from The News-Press and Naples Daily News. Voting closes at 10 a.m. on Thursday, so every vote counts in this exciting race to the finish line.
Throughout the school year, we've celebrated incredible performances from high school athletes across the region. Our selection process relies on coach reports and school nominations sent to sports@news-press.com and sports@naplesnews.com. Each Monday, we present a new poll on news-press.com and naplesdailynews.com, giving you, our readers, the power to choose who shone brightest. This week marks the final poll of the 2025-26 school year, making it a truly memorable moment.
Last week's winner was Aubrey Rogers track and field star Brooks Lyons, who captured an impressive 51.40% of the vote. She joins a prestigious list of past winners, including Canterbury soccer player Mackenzie Molina (Jan. 26-31, 2026), Cypress Lake basketball standout Victoria Silva (Jan. 19-24, 2026), and Bishop Verot soccer stars Lea Scotti (Jan. 12-17) and Gianna Fabrizi (Jan. 5-10). Other recent champions include Fort Myers basketball player Kayden Smutney (Dec. 15-Jan. 3), Evangelical Christian basketball's Nalah Smith (Dec. 8-13), Barron Collier's Abby Homberger (Dec. 1-6), and Canterbury's Nessiah Wallace (Nov. 17-29).
Now, it's your turn to decide who will claim the final title of the year. Will a track star, basketball player, soccer standout, or another athlete from a different sport take the crown? Head to the polls and cast your vote before Thursday morning. The winner will be announced on social media, so stay tuned for the big reveal!
