The Virginia Tech Hokies baseball team has found their stride at just the right time. After a rocky start to the 2026 season, the squad has put on their rally caps and turned things around in dramatic fashion, securing a stronger position heading into the ACC Tournament.

Rally caps are a beloved baseball tradition—worn when a team is trailing late in the game and needs a spark of offense and airtight defense to flip the script before the final out. For the Hokies, that spark came just past the halfway point of the season, as they began stacking wins and building momentum.

Tech has one ACC series left on the regular-season schedule. Clemson will travel to Blacksburg on May 14th, during Commencement Week, for a pivotal three-game set. The Hokies have a real opportunity to pad both their ACC record and overall win total against the struggling Tigers, making this final homestand a must-watch for fans.

Before that showdown, the Hokies have a busy week of non-conference action. On Wednesday evening, they head to Lynchburg to take on Liberty, aiming to even that series. Then it's back to Blacksburg for a weekend doubleheader against UNC-Greensboro on Saturday and Sunday. A quick road trip to Huntington, West Virginia, follows on Tuesday, May 12th, where Tech will look to even the Marshall series. All of this sets the stage for the regular-season finale against Clemson.

When we last checked in on the Hokies, they were hovering around .500, with the starting rotation just beginning to find its rhythm. The offense wasn't exactly channeling the Hammerin' Hokies of lore, but the team never quit on games. Fast forward to now, and Tech has climbed above the .500 mark with a 25-21 overall record. Their 13-14 ACC standing places them ninth in the conference—right in the middle of the pack. That makes the Clemson series even more critical.

ACC Tournament seeding is determined by final conference records, and a better seed means a more favorable path through the bracket. A strong finish could give the Hokies a chance to build momentum and steal a win or two before facing the conference's elite teams.

The most encouraging sign for Virginia Tech? They've won their last three ACC series. Before this recent surge, the Hokies hadn't claimed a series victory since taking two of three from Duke back in March. Since then, they've beaten Pitt on the road (April 17-19) and followed it up with back-to-back 2-1 series wins over NC State. The turnaround is real, and the Hokies are peaking at the perfect time.
