The 2026 NFL Draft has come and gone, and while no Virginia Tech Hokies heard their names called, the NFL dreams for several former players are just getting started. It's a notable shift for a program that once boasted a 26-year streak of having at least one player selected in the draft—a streak that ended in 2019 and has now seen no Hokies picked in two of the last three years.
That said, the draft isn't the only path to the pros. A handful of former Hokies have already signed undrafted free-agent (UDFA) deals or earned rookie minicamp invitations, giving them a shot to prove their worth at the next level. Here's where each player is headed as they begin their NFL journeys:
Signed UDFA Deals:
- QB Kyron Drones – Green Bay Packers: The dual-threat signal-caller will look to develop behind Jordan Love in a quarterback-friendly system.
- RB Terion Stewart – Kansas City Chiefs: Stewart joins a Super Bowl contender and will compete for a role in a backfield that values explosive plays.
- OL Tomas Rimac – Minnesota Vikings: Rimac adds depth to a Vikings offensive line looking to protect rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
- DT Kelvin Gilliams Jr. – Dallas Cowboys: Gilliams brings interior pressure to a Cowboys defense that loves to disrupt the pocket.
- DL Kody Huisman – Buffalo Bills: Huisman will try to crack a Bills roster that consistently fields one of the league's most aggressive fronts.
Rookie Camp Invites:
- LB Jaden Keller – Las Vegas Raiders: Keller's athleticism could earn him a longer look in Sin City.
- EDGE Ben Bell – Indianapolis Colts: Bell will get a chance to showcase his pass-rushing skills in a Colts defense that values edge depth.
- P Nick Veltsistas – Washington Commanders: The specialist will compete for a job in a league where reliable punters are always in demand.
It's also worth noting that former Hokie cornerback Mansoor Delane—who transferred to LSU ahead of last season—was selected No. 6 overall by the Kansas City Chiefs, underscoring the talent that once called Blacksburg home.
Best of luck to each of these Hokies as they begin their NFL journeys, with some already set to hit the field as soon as this weekend. We'll be tracking their progress every step of the way.
