Today is the day for Virginia Tech’s annual spring game, but this one feels much different.

The energy in Blacksburg is electric today. While the annual Virginia Tech spring game is always a welcome sign of football's return, this year's edition carries a distinctly different weight. It's not just a scrimmage; it's the dawn of a new era under first-year head coach James Franklin, and the Hokie faithful are responding with a buzz not felt in years.

Franklin has set the bar high, challenging fans to pack over 60,000 strong into Lane Stadium for a perfect spring Saturday. It's a bold statement of intent for a program looking to reclaim its place among the ACC's elite. The game itself kicks off at 3:00 p.m. ET with free admission, featuring the Maroon Team versus the White Team in a traditional scoring format.

For the X's and O's enthusiasts, the setup promises real competition. The game will be fully "live" for all positions except quarterback, with four 12-minute quarters. The clock will run for most of the second half, adding a pace-of-play element, but will revert to traditional timing in the final two minutes of each half, setting the stage for potential dramatic finishes.

One of the most anticipated moments could come from special teams, where All-ACC kicker John Love will be joined by his younger brother, Will, making his spring game debut. A late-game field goal competition between the siblings would be a memorable highlight.

Beyond the gridiron action, the day is packed with community events that embody the spirit of Virginia Tech. The "3.2 for 32" Run in Remembrance honors the 32 lives lost in April 2007, a poignant tradition that connects past and present. Festivities begin early at Hokie Village (opening at 11:30 a.m.) with live music, family activities, and fan engagement. The iconic Hokie Walk, where fans can cheer the team as they enter Lane Stadium, starts at 12:30 p.m. on Beamer Way.

Finally, don't miss the pregame spectacle. The Team FastTrax Skydivers are scheduled to soar into Lane Stadium at 2:30 p.m., landing on Worsham Field in a breathtaking aerial display that will officially set the stage for a new chapter of Hokie football.
