Vinicius Oliveira is headed up a weight class – and a divisional staple is there to welcome him.

Vinicius Oliveira is making the leap to featherweight, and he's stepping right into the fire against a UFC veteran.

The Brazilian banger, who's been turning heads since his Octagon debut, will face Giga Chikadze at UFC Fight Night 279. This three-round featherweight clash is set for the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, and it's a matchup that has fight fans buzzing.

Sources close to the promotion confirmed the booking to MMA Junkie, though the UFC has yet to make it official. The news first broke via Setanta Sport.

For Oliveira (23-4 MMA, 4-1 UFC), this move up in weight feels like a long time coming. The 30-year-old captured the MMA world's attention when he finally joined the UFC in 2023 after grinding through 22 fights on the regional circuit. He wasted no time making an impact, rattling off four straight wins over Bernardo Sopaj, Ricky Simon, Said Nurmagomedov, and Kyler Phillips. But his momentum hit a wall in February when he was dominated and submitted by Mario Bautista. After that loss, Oliveira opened up about the struggles of cutting to bantamweight, making it clear that featherweight was his next stop.

Standing across from him will be Chikadze (15-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC), a Georgian striker known for his flashy kickboxing and relentless pressure. At 37, Chikadze is in a tough spot—he's riding a three-fight losing streak, with losses to Arnold Allen, David Onama, and Kevin Vallejos. Outside the cage, he's built a reputation for his humanitarian work, but inside it, he's fighting for survival. A fourth straight loss could spell the end of his UFC run.

This fight is a crossroads for both men. Oliveira is looking to prove he belongs at 145 pounds, while Chikadze is desperate to remind everyone why he was once considered a rising force in the division. Expect fireworks when they step into the cage.
