According to a report by Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany could receive a massive bonus if he wins the UEFA Champions League this season.
Per the report, a clause was inserted during his most recent contract extension that guarantees the Belgian a €1m bonus if he wins Europe’s premier club competition. Given that winning the competition would earn FC Bayern millions upon millions of euros in prize money and TV revenue, that seems like a fair deal.
Of course, Kompany is hardly unique in this regard. Much of the squad will likely have bonuses in their contracts related to how many trophies they win. For a team like Bayern Munich, which has a real chance of winning the UCL at the beginning of every season, such clauses are commonplace.
For now, Kompany is unlikely to be thinking much about his bonus. He still has to get past Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals, and if successful, win the finals against either Arsenal FC or Atlético Madrid. Winning the entire competition requires an extraordinary level of commitment and focus, so Kompany is likely to keep his team focused on the ultimate prize before getting distracted by shiny bonuses.
