The Minnesota Vikings are on the hunt for a new general manager, and they've set their sights on the San Francisco 49ers' front office yet again. After navigating the recent NFL Draft without a GM—following Kwesi Adofo-Mensah's departure back to the 49ers in late February—the Vikings are now looking to poach another key executive from one of the league's most successful franchises.

It's no surprise that teams are lining up to pick the brains of the 49ers' brass. In a copycat league, success breeds interest, and San Francisco has been a gold standard for roster building this decade. Adofo-Mensah was the first to leave, but he wasn't the last: Martin Mayhew, Ran Carthon, and Adam Peters have all since moved on to become GMs elsewhere.

Now, the Vikings are hoping to add to that list. On Thursday morning, they formally requested an interview with RJ Gillen, the 49ers' assistant general manager, for their vacant top job. This comes after the Miami Dolphins also expressed interest in Gillen—along with fellow 49ers front office members Josh Williams and Tariq Ahmad—at the end of the regular season.

Gillen brings over a decade of experience in San Francisco, having climbed the ranks from the scouting department in 2015 to director of pro personnel, then director of player personnel, before being promoted to assistant GM this past season. That kind of tenure and institutional knowledge makes him a compelling candidate for any team looking to build a championship-caliber roster—and the Vikings are clearly ready to make their move.
