The Minnesota Vikings are making moves to fill their vacant general manager position, and they've set their sights on a key figure from a division rival. According to multiple reports, the Vikings have formally requested an interview with Detroit Lions assistant general manager Ray Agnew for the top front-office job.
Agnew, who has been with the Lions since 2021, brings a wealth of experience to the table. Before joining Detroit, he spent 18 seasons with the Los Angeles Rams organization, where he climbed the ranks from director of pro personnel to assistant director of pro personnel, director of player development, and even team pastor. His football IQ isn't just limited to the front office—Agnew also played 11 seasons as a defensive tackle in the NFL, winning Super Bowl XXXIV with the then-St. Louis Rams.
The Vikings' GM search is heating up, with Agnew joining a growing list of candidates that includes Broncos assistant GM Reed Burckhardt and Dolphins assistant GM Kyle Smith. Minnesota's interim general manager, longtime executive Rob Brzezinski, is also in the mix as one of 10 known candidates for the role.
It's been a rollercoaster for both franchises recently. The Lions and Vikings entered the 2024 season finale with identical 14-2 records, with Detroit clinching the NFC North title in a 31-9 victory over Minnesota. But both teams stumbled in the playoffs, and the 2025 season saw a dramatic shift—the Vikings swept the season series, eliminated the Lions from playoff contention on Christmas Day, and both finished with 9-8 records, with Detroit landing in last place and Minnesota taking third.
As the Vikings look to rebuild their front office, all eyes are on Agnew and whether his proven track record can help guide Minnesota back to the top of the NFC North.
