The atmosphere at the Santiago Bernabeu took a dramatic turn during Real Madrid’s disappointing 1-1 draw against Girona, as the home crowd made their frustrations known.

Just days after Vinicius Jr. was singled out by sections of the support during the defeat to Bayern Munich, the discontent returned, but this time, it was directed at the entire team.

The tension had been building throughout the night, but it reached a boiling point around the 70th minute.

Real Madrid had taken the lead through Federico Valverde, only to allow Girona back into the game.

What followed was a lacklustre response that did little to convince the supporters that a winning goal was coming.

Instead of urgency, there was hesitation. Instead of intensity, there was uncertainty and it did not take long for the crowd to react.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Cries of “Come on, show some spirit!” echoed around the stadium, which is a clear sign that patience was wearing thin.

Moments later, after Girona threatened again, the whistles began and they did not stop.

As per the outlet, the frustration intensified in the 79th minute when Eduardo Camavinga was taken off.

The French midfielder had endured a difficult evening and was seen as partly responsible for Girona’s equaliser.

As his number went up, the reaction from the stands was immediate, with another wave of boos sweeping across the Bernabeu.

By the time the final whistle blew, the mood inside the stadium had turned unmistakably hostile.

The result itself was damaging, but the manner of the performance only made things worse.

As players remained on the pitch, the boos returned – louder and more sustained than before.

In an attempt to ease the tension, the stadium’s PA system blasted the Real Madrid anthem at near full volume, but it did little to mask the reaction.

As such, this reaction did not come out of nowhere, as Real Madrid are now on a run of three league matches without a win, a sequence that has significantly dented their title hopes.
