Vermont Green FC is making a powerful play for gender equity both on and off the pitch. The club has announced an exciting new partnership with Vermont Works for Women, timed perfectly with the launch of its inaugural women's soccer season this summer.
Dubbed "More Green More Good," this collaboration is designed to expand opportunities for female athletes while supporting women across the state. Three women-owned businesses—BirdieBlue, //Gametheory, and Ursa Major—have signed on as founding partners, each pledging $50 for every home goal scored to fund Vermont Works for Women's statewide programs.
For those new to the pitch, Vermont Works for Women has been a champion of gender equity since 1987, offering career exploration, trades training, coaching, and workshops for women and youth at every career stage. Meanwhile, Vermont Green FC—founded in 2022 as a United Soccer League member—is coming off a historic season, having clinched its first men's national championship with an undefeated run. Now, after two seasons of exhibition matches, the club is fielding a full women's team, marking a major milestone.
"For decades, women's sports have been driving a global push for pay equity and female empowerment," said Rhoni Baden, executive director of Vermont Works for Women. "We were thrilled when Vermont Green announced they would be joining the USL W League, and we're grateful for their partnership and willingness to try something new with 'More Green More Good.'"
Vermont Green cofounder Sam Glickman echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the deeper mission. "Launching our inaugural women's team is a meaningful step forward for Vermont Green, and partnering with Vermont Works for Women strengthens that impact," Glickman said. "Together, we're not only growing the game but also advancing gender equity and expanding economic opportunities for women across Vermont. This partnership reflects our shared belief that sport can be a powerful platform for positive change in our communities."
Fans can catch the action starting May 23, when the "More Green More Good" partners will have tables set up at home games. It's a season that promises goals, growth, and a whole lot of green.
