In the high-octane world of the IPL, where reputations are forged and shattered in the span of a single over, a new star is rising—and he's barely old enough to drive. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old batting prodigy from Rajasthan Royals, has added another elite name to his growing list of admirers: South African pace ace Kagiso Rabada.
The Gujarat Titans speedster, currently enjoying a stellar IPL season with 21 wickets to his name, was left visibly impressed after Sooryavanshi took him downtown for back-to-back sixes during their recent clash. For Rabada, a bowler known for his lethal pace and precision, the encounter was a revelation.
"He's a great talent. He's got really fast hands. He's fearless at the moment. There's not an ounce of fear in his body," Rabada told PTI, his admiration clear. "That's how it normally is when you're young, it's really fascinating. It's great to see the game is well and truly alive."
Sooryavanshi's fearless approach has become his trademark this season. The teenager has already taken on—and taken apart—some of the most formidable bowlers in the world, including Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Against Gujarat, he even launched Siraj for a first-ball six, a shot that sent a clear message: age is just a number.
For Rabada, however, the hype around the youngster doesn't change his approach on the field. "What I'm thinking is just another batter. And try to get the better of him," he said with the calm confidence of a seasoned campaigner. "It's almost like a little bit of flair. He's definitely an X-factor player. Someone that is drawing eyes to the game. Fantastic. Really fast hands. No fear. That's one hell of a combination."
As the IPL continues to showcase the next generation of cricketing talent, Sooryavanshi's fearless batting and Rabada's classy recognition of it remind us why this tournament remains the ultimate stage for raw, unpolished brilliance. The question now is: who will be the next to fall under the spell of this teenage sensation?
