Virginia Wesleyan University's softball team isn't just winning; they're authoring a historic season. The Marlins have stormed through their schedule, remaining undefeated through 32 games and cementing their status as the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III.
This remarkable run set the stage for a monumental personal achievement for their leader. This past weekend, longtime head coach Brandon Elliott secured his 700th career victory, a testament to decades of dedication and excellence.
Reflecting on the milestone with characteristic humility, Elliott stated, "You do this long enough and you’re gonna get some wins." He added that the moment was made even more special as it coincided with the team's "Strike-Out Cancer" day, honoring his mother.
The legacy Elliott has built in Virginia Beach is profound, having already guided the Marlins to three national championships. However, the current roster is hungry to create its own legacy, as none of the players have experienced winning it all. This year's dominant squad, with the majority of its wins being decisive, has all the tools to change that.
Coach Elliott's motivation remains crystal clear. "I continue to do this," he said, "because I want to bring another group of kids to give them the opportunity to experience that." With an undefeated record and a legendary coach at the helm, the Marlins are charging toward the postseason with championship aspirations firmly in sight.
