The Utah women's basketball program has made a significant move in the transfer portal, securing a commitment from former Kansas guard Laia Conesa. This marks the Utes' first portal addition of the offseason and brings a seasoned Big 12 competitor to Salt Lake City for her final year of eligibility.
Conesa, a 5-foot-11 guard from Barcelona, Spain, brings three years of high-major experience to a Utah roster undergoing major changes. Her most productive season came as a sophomore in 2024-25, where she started 25 games for the Jayhawks, averaging 7.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
Her arrival is timely for head coach Gavin Peterson. The Utes are navigating substantial roster turnover, with six players entering the portal and three key contributors, including leading scorers Lani White and Maty Wilke, graduating. This exodus creates a clear opportunity for a veteran like Conesa to step into a major role immediately.
With only four players currently slated to return, Conesa's experience is invaluable. She is expected to bolster a backcourt that will feature redshirt freshman Ella Todd and a pair of incoming freshmen guards. Her defensive tenacity and familiarity with the physical style of the Big 12 will be crucial assets as Utah rebuilds its identity for the upcoming season.
