USC men's basketball forward Jacob Cofie is turning heads on the national stage. After an impressive showing at the G League Combine over the weekend, the talented forward has earned a coveted invitation to the NBA Combine, which runs through Sunday in Chicago. He's one of just five prospects to receive this upgrade, joining Rafael Castro, Bryce Hopkins, Trey Kaufman-Renn, and Aaron Nkrumah.
This is a major milestone for Cofie, who is the only USC player invited to this year's NBA Combine. The event is a critical stepping stone for draft hopefuls, offering them a chance to showcase their skills in front of NBA executives, scouts, and decision-makers.
Cofie was one of three Trojans—alongside guard Alijah Arenas and center Gabe Dynes—who initially declared for the NBA Draft as early entry candidates. The early entry process allows players to test the professional waters while maintaining NCAA eligibility, provided they withdraw by the May 27 deadline.
Interestingly, the Trojans' roster picture is starting to take shape. Arenas has already withdrawn from the draft and will return to USC next season. Dynes, on the other hand, has yet to pull his name out and didn't receive an invitation to either the G League or NBA Combine. That likely means he'll also be back in college basketball next year.
Cofie's rise is no surprise to those who watched him this past season. The forward averaged 9.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while shooting career-highs from the field (51%) and from beyond the arc (31.8%). After transferring from Virginia as a sophomore, he still has two more years of eligibility remaining—a valuable asset whether he stays in the draft or returns to the college game.
