Jim Furyk, the newly reappointed US Ryder Cup captain, has made it clear he wants golf legend Tiger Woods involved in the 2027 tournament at Adare Manor in Ireland—despite Woods' recent off-course struggles.

Furyk, who previously led the US team to a heavy defeat at Le Golf National in 2018, is looking to turn the tide against a dominant European side that has won the last two editions of the Ryder Cup. With home advantage for Europe in Ireland next year, Furyk is eager to tap into every possible resource—including Woods' unmatched experience.

The 15-time major champion has been undergoing treatment in Switzerland following a DUI arrest in March, when police found prescription opioid hydrocodone pills in his possession. Woods has long used these for pain management after multiple surgeries. Despite the setback, Furyk expressed nothing but respect for his former teammate.

"We haven’t spoken yet. I think, out of courtesy for him and his family and I know maybe a road to health, I haven’t reached out but I will," Furyk said. "Definitely. We’ll see where that role may fall."

The two have a strong history of collaboration. Furyk served as a vice-captain alongside Woods in previous Ryder Cups, and he knows exactly what the 47-year-old brings to the team room. "I enjoyed serving—I use that word serving—as a vice-captain with him a number of times. I think he brought a lot to the team room and a lot of knowledge and a lot of experience," Furyk added.

While Woods' immediate future in the game remains uncertain, the possibility of his return—even in an advisory role—adds a compelling layer to the 2027 Ryder Cup narrative. For Furyk, it's about more than just filling a roster spot; it's about leveraging the kind of championship mentality that Woods has embodied for decades.

As the US team looks to reclaim the trophy on foreign soil, having Woods in the fold—even behind the scenes—could be the game-changer Furyk needs.
