The United States has selected Jim Furyk to return as Ryder Cup captain for 2027 matches in Ireland, according to a new Associated Press report.
Furyk, who led the U.S. during the 2018 Ryder Cup and 2024 Presidents Cup, takes the reins after Tiger Woods declined an invitation to become the captain. Woods was arrested on March 27 on suspicion of DUI after his SUV crashed into a trailer. He is receiving inpatient rehab outside the U.S.

Both PGA of America and Furyk declined comment on the captain’s pick, per AP.
“We look forward to sharing details regarding our 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup captain announcement soon,” the organization said in a statement.
The next Ryder Cup is set for September 13-19, 2027, at Adare Manor Golf Club in Limerick, Ireland. Europe is coming off two consecutive victories, including its 15-13 triumph in 2025 at Bethpage Black on American soil.
Europe also won in 2018 when Furyk led the American squad. The Europeans claimed a resounding 17 1/2-10 1/2 victory in France.
U.S. player Patrick Reed criticized Furyk’s leadership. Furyk held Reed out of two sessions of the 2018 Ryder Cup.
“For somebody as successful in the Ryder Cup as I am, I don’t think it’s smart to sit me twice,” Reed said at the time.
Furyk enjoyed a much better result as captain of the 2024 Presidents Cup squad. The U.S. claimed an 18.5-11.5 victory over the international side.
Furyk told Golfweek he learned from his Ryder Cup experience in 2018.
“I think I was a lot more prepared this year than I was in ’18. I think the experience in ’18 and knowing that I could have done a few things better, I think, really helped,” Furyk said.
Brandt Snedeker is the U.S. captain for the 2026 Presidents Cup, set for late September in Chicago.
