The path to the WNBA isn't always through the draft, and USC's Kara Dunn is proving just that. After going undrafted Monday night, the senior guard has reportedly secured a training camp contract with the Phoenix Mercury, keeping her professional dreams alive.
Dunn will be the sole Trojan representative entering the league this year, heading to a Mercury squad actively building its future. Phoenix had a busy draft night, selecting French forward Ines Pitarch-Granel and Hungarian guard Eszter Ratkai, and followed up by adding Dunn and former Indiana standouts Shay Ciezki and Yardon Garzon to training camp deals. These five rookies will now compete for a coveted roster spot when camp opens, with the Mercury's first preseason test set for April 25 against the Chicago Sky.
A graduate transfer from Georgia Tech, Dunn brought veteran leadership and proven scoring to USC for the 2025-26 season. Her collegiate resume is impressive: a two-time All-ACC selection at Georgia Tech, including a First Team nod as a junior, and she earned a spot on the prestigious Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Watch List this past season.
On the court for the Trojans, Dunn was a consistent force. Starting all 32 games, she averaged 15.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists, serving as the team's second-leading scorer and rebounder behind National Freshman of the Year Jazzy Davidson. Her strong season was capped with an All-Big Ten Second Team selection, solidifying her status as a player ready for the next challenge.
