BOSTON — The Boston Celtics could've mailed it in on Sunday night against the Orlando Magic. They had nothing to play for and the injury report showed that, as the Celtics sat Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Neemias Queta, and others to give them some rest. Yet, with just eight players available, the C's still met the Magic with the utmost effort and prevailed 113-108 at TD Garden.
The Celtics led by as many as 16 points despite being severely undermanned, but it became a tie game with 36 seconds to go following a 3-pointer from Magic guard Jalen Suggs. Everything still seemed to be going Boston's way though, and center Luka Garza proved that when he cashed a turnaround 3-pointer to send the crowd into a frenzy and give the Celtics a 111-108 lead with just 31.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Following that miraculous shot, the Celtics held on to win and Garza finished with a career-high 27 points in 38 minutes. He was far from the only Celtic with a career night. Celtics guard Ron Harper Jr. recorded a career-high 27 points, Baylor Scheierman notched a career-high (and game-high) 30 points, and rookie John Tonje scored a career-high 13 points off the bench.
With the regular season finally in the books, the Celtics officially went 56-26 overall. That's just five games worse than last season's 61-21 campaign, which was when the C's still rostered guys like Jrue Holiday, Al Horford, Luke Kornet, and Kristaps Porzingis.
Up next for the Celtics is what they've been waiting for: the 2026 NBA Playoffs. They'll either face the Philadelphia 76ers or, ironically, the Orlando Magic in the first round. Regardless of their opponent, they'll have homecourt advantage.
