North Carolina has contacted Florida center Micah Handlogten as it looks to add frontcourt depth to its roster.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are making moves to shore up their frontcourt depth, and they've set their sights on a familiar name with local roots. According to a report from TarHeel247's David Sisk, UNC has reached out to Florida center Micah Handlogten, a 7-foot-1 senior from Huntersville, North Carolina, who is currently in the transfer portal.

Handlogten's journey has been anything but straightforward. After fracturing his leg during the 2024 SEC Tournament, he initially planned to redshirt the 2025 season. But he made a gutsy decision to return to the floor with just seven games left in the regular season, ultimately logging 199 minutes over 16 games from Feb. 15 to April 7. That stretch included Florida's inspiring run to a national championship, where Handlogten served as a key depth piece.

This past season, he played in 34 games with two starts, averaging 4.1 points and 5.9 rebounds in 14.8 minutes per game. He operated behind standout forward Reuben Chinyelu—the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year—on a deep Florida front line that also captured the SEC regular-season title and earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Gators' season ended abruptly with a buzzer-beater loss to Iowa in the round of 32.

Now, Handlogten is waiting on an NCAA ruling for a medical redshirt waiver that could grant him one more season of eligibility. Over four seasons split between Marshall and Florida, he has posted career averages of 5.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks while shooting an efficient 64.6% from the field.

For UNC, adding a player of Handlogten's size and experience could be a game-changer as they look to bolster their frontcourt rotation. His ability to rebound and protect the rim would provide valuable depth, especially in the physical battles of ACC play. Keep an eye on this developing story as the Tar Heels continue their roster-building efforts.
