Unai Emery has provided an important update on midfielder Amadou Onana's injury status, following Aston Villa's dramatic 2-2 draw with Burnley. The Belgian international picked up the knock during the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against Nottingham Forest—a tie Villa ultimately dominated, winning 4-1 on aggregate.
Onana has been a linchpin in Villa's midfield this season, making his absence a significant concern. Speaking after the Burnley match, Emery revealed: "The doctor told us it would be two or three weeks, which more or less covers the Europa League final or the final against Liverpool. If someone can't play in the final or against Man City, we'll need to find solutions."
With Villa navigating a grueling fixture schedule, Emery praised his squad's resilience: "Some players were very tired today, but the commitment was fantastic. The ambition and mentality to play on Thursday and again here is incredible. We're not as consistent as we were at the start of the season, but the league is a 38-match marathon."
He added: "It was a fantastic performance. I'm very happy with how they competed to try and get three points. We're competing in two competitions, which isn't easy in the Premier League, but sitting in the top five is fantastic. We keep pushing forward—next up is Liverpool on Friday. We're excited for what lies ahead: a Europa League final and Manchester City—wow!"
