The University of Hawaii women's water polo team is riding a wave of momentum into the National Collegiate Women’s Water Polo Championship next week, and that energy was amplified Friday with a sweep of the Big West Conference's major awards for the second consecutive season.
Leading the charge is sophomore Agatha Weston, who was named the Big West Player of the Year. This marks the fourth straight year a Rainbow Wahine athlete has earned this prestigious honor, a testament to the program's sustained excellence. Weston, returning from a redshirt season, dominated the stat sheet, leading her team in goals (51), shooting percentage (.586), steals (31), and field blocks (13).
The accolades didn't stop there. Freshman Ariadna Temprano Xambó was named Freshman of the Year, while James Robinson repeated as Coach of the Year, solidifying UH's all-around strength. Weston was joined on the All-Big West First Team by junior goalkeeper Daisy Logtens and sophomore Ema Vernoux, with senior Raha Peiravani earning Second Team honors. Asimina Klapsianou joined Temprano Xambó on the All-Freshman Team.
Meanwhile, on the softball diamond, the Rainbow Wahine (21-18, 13-6) opened their Big West series at UC San Diego with a gritty 3-2 victory. Pitcher Taryn Irimata delivered a complete-game performance, scattering six hits and striking out four to secure the win.
The offense provided just enough support, manufacturing a run in the third inning before adding single runs in the fourth and fifth. Key hits came from Jamie McGaughey, who drove in the first run, and pinch hitter Teiah Keliiholokai, whose fifth-inning triple provided crucial insurance. The series continues as both UH teams showcase the competitive spirit synonymous with Hawaii athletics.
