The Hawaii Hilo softball team saw their PacWest Championship run come to an end on Wednesday, falling 10-2 to Jessup in La Mirada, California. The Vulcans, seeded third in the tournament, entered the day with hopes of extending their season but were ultimately the first team eliminated from the four-team, double-elimination bracket.
Jessup's Korrie Almond was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete game while scattering eight hits to lead the No. 4 Warriors to victory. For Hawaii Hilo, who finished the season with a 26-17 record, Lexie Tilton and Mia Joaquin provided the offensive spark, each driving in a run to keep their team within striking distance.
The Vulcans' day started with a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to No. 2 Biola earlier on Wednesday, setting the stage for an elimination game that ultimately ended their tournament hopes. Despite the early exit, the team showed resilience throughout the season, battling back from tough moments to earn their spot in the postseason.
In other PacWest action, the Chaminade men's golf team wrapped up their tournament at The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship in West Palm Beach, Florida, finishing fifth overall. The Silverswords posted a final-round 302 on Wednesday, completing the three-day event with a combined score of 924. Western New Mexico took home the Division II title with an impressive 890, led by individual champion Jacob Alcorta, who fired a 213 to win by a comfortable margin. Chaminade's top performer was Cody Dao, who carded a 15-over 228 to finish 12th in the competitive field.
