The transfer portal is buzzing with a familiar name for UCLA women's basketball fans. Former Bruins guard Elina Aarnisalo has entered the portal, opening the door for a potential return to Westwood with two years of eligibility remaining.

Aarnisalo spent her sophomore season at North Carolina, where she proved to be a reliable and efficient contributor. She appeared in all 36 games for the Tar Heels, starting 26, and posted averages of 10.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. Her shooting was particularly impressive, hitting 47.3% from the field and a sharp 40.4% from three-point range.

Her initial departure from UCLA followed the 2024-25 season, a historic year where she helped the Bruins reach the Final Four for the first time in the NCAA era. As a freshman, she played a key role off the bench, averaging nearly 21 minutes per game. However, with the anticipated return of veteran guard Charlisse Leger-Walker and the addition of transfer Gianna Kneepkens, her playing time projection for the following season became uncertain.

The landscape in Westwood has shifted dramatically since then. Fresh off winning their first-ever NCAA championship, the Bruins are now in a reloading phase after seeing six players selected in the 2026 WNBA Draft. This creates a significant opportunity for a player of Aarnisalo's experience and skill set.

A return to UCLA would offer the Finland native a chance to step into a larger, more defined role for a championship program. Her proven scoring ability, especially from deep, and her experience in high-stakes tournament games—including a Sweet 16 run with UNC this past season—could be invaluable as the Bruins look to defend their title and build their next chapter.
