UCLA women's basketball is celebrating a championship-winning coach for the long haul. Cori Close, who just led the Bruins to their first-ever NCAA title in April, has signed a new contract that keeps her in Westwood through the 2029-30 season.

This move comes after a historic year for Close and her team. She was named the 2025-26 Big Ten Coach of the Year and swept national coach of the year honors for the 2024-25 season. Under her leadership, the Bruins have made back-to-back Final Four appearances and notched 10 NCAA Tournament trips overall.

"We are extremely proud of what Cori has accomplished in leading our women's basketball program," said UCLA Athletic Director Martin Jarmond. "Winning a national championship is a tremendous achievement, but what truly stands out with Cori is the character, leadership and daily commitment she and her staff bring to developing student-athletes into the best versions of themselves."

The 2024-25 season was particularly remarkable for player development. Close coached six Bruins who were drafted into the WNBA this year—a league record for the most players selected from a single school in one draft class. That kind of talent pipeline is a dream for any program, and it speaks to Close's ability to recruit and develop elite athletes.

Now, Close is focused on the next chapter. With several key players moving on to the pros, she's in a rebuilding phase—but she's already assembled one of the top transfer portal classes in the nation this offseason. For fans, that means the Bruins aren't just resting on their championship laurels; they're reloading for another run.

"I am so grateful to Chancellor Frenk and Martin Jarmond for the opportunity to continue teaching and mentoring the young women who choose UCLA," said Close. "I love being here in Westwood, and I am so excited for what the future holds."

With a proven winner at the helm and a roster that's being reshaped for success, UCLA women's basketball is poised to remain a powerhouse. For Bruins fans—and anyone who loves seeing a program built on character and commitment—this contract extension is a win that goes far beyond the court.
