The quarterback recruiting landscape is shifting fast this spring, and one name rising to the top is Colton Nussmeier. By the end of this week, the four-star signal-caller from Denton (Texas) Ryan will be the highest-ranked uncommitted quarterback in the 2027 class—and UCLA just made a major move to get in the mix.

Standing 6-foot-3.5 and 200 pounds, Nussmeier has kept his recruitment relatively low-key compared to other top QBs in his cycle. But that hasn't stopped blue-blood programs from tracking him for years. Now, as he looks ahead to his senior season, he's carefully weighing his options.

On Tuesday evening, Nussmeier announced a new offer from UCLA, adding the Bruins to an already impressive list of suitors. It's a significant development, as head coach Bob Chesney and his staff have been red-hot on the recruiting trail this spring. UCLA's 2027 class currently ranks No. 11 nationally, and the Bruins are still searching for their quarterback of the future. They're already a finalist for in-state four-star QB Dane Weber, and now they've entered the picture for this Lone Star State standout.

Nussmeier is the younger brother of former LSU quarterback and new Kansas City Chiefs signal-caller Garrett Nussmeier, so football pedigree runs deep in his family. According to the Rivals Industry Ranking—a weighted average of all major recruiting media outlets—Colton checks in as the No. 194 overall prospect and the No. 16 quarterback in the 2027 cycle.

Arkansas, Georgia, and Kentucky have also been heavily involved with Nussmeier throughout the spring, while Ohio State and Utah have had conversations with the soon-to-be senior. Last season at Marcus (Texas), he played in eight games, completing 100 of 167 passes for 1,390 yards, 12 touchdowns, and just one interception. Looking for a fresh start for his final year of high school, he's now joined Denton Ryan—a Raiders squad that won 13 games last season and returns plenty of offensive firepower.

With offers piling up and his senior season on the horizon, all eyes are on Nussmeier as the next big domino to fall in the 2027 quarterback race.
