When Tyler Onyedim steps onto the field for the Denver Broncos this season, he won't just be joining a new team—he'll be reuniting with family.
The rookie defensive lineman, who spent his first four college seasons at Iowa State before finishing at Texas A&M, knows exactly what it means to have a familiar face in the locker room. That familiar face is Eyioma Uwazurike, his former Cyclones teammate and self-proclaimed "big brother."
Their bond runs deeper than football. "That's my dog," Onyedim said with genuine emotion. "He's going to be in my wedding; I'm going to be in his wedding. That's my brother."
The two defensive linemen overlapped during the 2021 season at Iowa State—Onyedim's first year of college football and Uwazurike's final season before entering the NFL draft. Now, three years later, they're reunited in Denver's defensive line room.
Onyedim's path to the Broncos included a memorable conversation with defensive line coach Jamar Cain. "He said he really liked my play, really liked the player I was," Onyedim recalled. "I feel like my contact went really, really good. I love the defensive line. I love my boy Enyi."
While Onyedim will be competing with Uwazurike for playing time at defensive end, their friendship remains the priority. "That's big brother. That's big bro," Onyedim emphasized. "I'm happy to be back."
For fans looking to gear up like their favorite Broncos, this reunion story adds an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming season. The pair will take the field together when organized team activities (OTAs) begin next month, ready to prove that brotherhood and competition can go hand in hand.
