It was a great day at Little Rock Southwest High School as two Gryphons signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers in college.

Big dreams turned into official commitments at Little Rock Southwest High School this week, as two standout Gryphons signed their letters of intent to take their talents to the collegiate level.

First up, Jordan Bowden made history by becoming the first girls' basketball player from Little Rock Southwest to earn a college scholarship. She signed her national letter of intent to play for Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. For Bowden, the decision wasn't just about basketball—it was about finding the perfect balance between athletics and academics. "I decided to go to Millsaps because I also want to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. Their academics are actually one of the best in Mississippi. So that's why I have chosen to go there to play basketball," she shared. Reflecting on the moment, Bowden added, "It means a lot to me. I'm just so happy. I hope I'm making my family proud, especially my mother, because she pushed me so much. My stepdad, I just want to give all of the thanks to them and God."

On the football side, Derrick Vasser signed his letter to join Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas. The Pirates' program gained national attention through the Netflix series Last Chance U (seasons 3 and 4), known for giving athletes a second opportunity to shine. Vasser embraces that underdog spirit. "I just know that's the school of underdogs. You know, a lot of people go there and just from a bad situation or a situation where it just wasn't in their favor. My situation isn't like theirs, but it's a situation where, you know, I got to go and get it out of the mud. So that's what I'm going to do," he said.

Both athletes are proof that hard work, dedication, and a clear vision for the future can lead to incredible opportunities. Whether it's making history on the basketball court or chasing dreams on the football field, these Gryphons are ready to take the next step. We can't wait to see what they accomplish in college and beyond.
