Two Chelsea stars have earned glowing praise from The Athletic's Simon Johnson following their hard-fought 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday. The result ended a dismal run of seven consecutive league defeats, offering a much-needed morale boost for the Blues as they sit ninth in the Premier League table.
While the draw didn't significantly improve their standings, individual performances caught the eye—especially from Levi Colwill and Moises Caicedo. Johnson described Colwill as "one of the finest defenders in the country," noting how his partnership with Wesley Fofana rekindled the chemistry they showed last season. For Caicedo, the journalist highlighted a complete display: the midfielder led the team in key passes, completed 64 overall (second-best), made four tackles, two dribbles, and drew three fouls. "Chelsea are a different side when he is at the top of his game," Johnson added.
Consistency remains the challenge, though. The Blues have struggled to string together strong performances, and with a new manager expected this summer, every player is under scrutiny. The draw at Anfield showed flashes of promise, but turning those flashes into regular results will be key—especially as the club eyes another attacking reinforcement in the transfer window.
For now, fans can take heart from the resilience shown against a top side. If Colwill and Caicedo can maintain this level, Chelsea might just find the foundation they need to climb back up the table.
