The 2026 IIHF World Championships are set to kick off Friday morning, and the Boston Bruins will have a strong presence at the tournament. Already, six NHL Bruins players are confirmed to represent their countries in Switzerland. Now, following the Providence Bruins' early exit from the AHL playoffs, two more names have been added to the roster.
Lukas Reichel will join Team Germany just hours after signing a one-year extension to stay in Boston. While he spent most of his time in the AHL, his performance suggests he's likely to earn a spot on the NHL roster come fall. This will be Reichel's fifth appearance at the IIHF Worlds for Germany. In 10 NHL games with the Bruins, he recorded one goal and three points, and he played in one playoff game—a tough 6-1 loss in Game 4. With the Providence Bruins, he tallied one goal and six points in four regular-season games but was held scoreless in three playoff contests.
Meanwhile, Matej Blümel will suit up for Team Czechia for the third time in his career, having previously participated in 2021 and 2022. The 25-year-old was a standout for Providence this season, posting 21 goals and 52 points in 58 AHL games. He added two goals in the four-game playoff series loss to the Thunderbirds. In his four NHL appearances, Blümel went pointless with a minus-3 rating before a stint on long-term injured reserve.
With these additions, the Bruins' presence at the World Championships continues to grow, showcasing the depth and talent within the organization—from NHL regulars to rising prospects looking to make their mark on the international stage.
