Simeon Woods Richardson, a Mets draft pick in 2018, gave up three runs in five innings pitched. All three scored on a Francisco Lindor home run in the third inning. Woods Richardson allowed four hits, walked three and took a no-decision.

Luke Keaschall provided both the game-tying and game-winning hits for the Twins.

An inning after the Twins finally broke through against Mets starter Nolan McLean, Keaschall sent a single to center to even the score at 3-3 in the seventh inning.

In the ninth, after the first two batters walked and everyone was safe on Kody Clemens’ sacrifice bunt, Keaschall’s second hit of the game gave the Twins their first lead. The Twins tacked on another run when Matt Wallner walked with the bases loaded.

McLean was perfect through the first five innings, absolutely dominating the Twins. He struck out every batter in the Twins lineup except for Josh Bell, but the Twins finally broke through off him in the sixth inning.

Matt Wallner’s single to lead off the frame halted McLean’s bid for perfection, and later in that inning, Byron Buxton hit a pivotal two-run home run which cut the Mets’ lead to 3-2.

The Twins and Mets will play the second game of their three-game set on Wednesday night at 6:10 p.m. CDT. Top pitching prospect Connor Prielipp is expected to be added to the major league roster and make his debut against the Mets. Clay Holmes (2-2, 1.96 ERA) will start for the Mets, who have lost 12 straight games.
