In a landslide of support from the local community, the 2026 Tulare County Fans' Choice Wrestlers of the Year have been crowned. After nearly one million total votes were cast, readers of the Visalia Times-Delta/Tulare Advance Register made their voices heard, celebrating two standout athletes who dominated the mat this season.

On the girls' side, Redwood High School's Emily Carvalho emerged as a clear fan favorite. The junior wrestler secured an astonishing 822,686 votes—a commanding 99.43% majority—to take home the title. Her performance on the state stage was equally impressive: after winning her first four matches at the state tournament in February, Carvalho powered her way to the 190-pound championship match, ultimately earning a silver medal and cementing her status as one of the top wrestlers in California.

In the boys' competition, Farmersville's Sergio Valencia proved his mettle both on and off the mat. A state tournament qualifier, Valencia garnered 36,264 votes, good for a 45.79% majority, to claim the boys' wrestler of the year award. His relentless drive and skill have made him a standout in the Central Valley wrestling scene.

These young athletes represent the heart of Tulare County's wrestling tradition—a blend of hard work, community support, and pure athletic grit. Whether you're gearing up for your own matches or just love the sport, their stories remind us that champions are built one vote, one match, and one season at a time.
