Every year, the NFL calendar gives us something to scratch our heads about, and right near the top of that list is "schedule release week." Can we just get to the point already?

The schedule is finished. It's done. The league knows exactly when every single game will be played. No last-minute details are being hammered out behind closed doors. So why do we have to drag this out over multiple days? Just tell us when the games are happening and let us start planning our Sundays.

And while we're at it, can we talk about the annual debate over strength of schedule? It might be one of the most overblown conversations in all of sports. What does it even mean to have a "strong" or "weak" schedule in May? These rankings are based entirely on last year's performance, but any fan knows teams change dramatically from season to season.

Just look at the NFC North. The Bears completely overhauled their secondary and traded one of their top receivers. The Vikings have a new starting quarterback under center. The Lions? Their whole identity is built on volatility. How can you possibly project anything meaningful from last year to this year with that group?

And that's assuming nothing changes during the season itself. Packers fans know better than most how quickly a team can transform. Heck, look how different Green Bay looked from the beginning of the Broncos game to the end last season. One game can change everything.

Strong schedule, weak schedule—none of it means anything in May. It might mean something different in September than it does in December. At the end of the day, we just have to wait and see what happens on the field. And first, we have to wait for the NFL to finally dole out the actual schedule.

So here's hoping the league speeds things up. We've got jerseys to plan, game day outfits to coordinate, and rivalries to get excited about. Let's stop dragging this out and drop the schedule already.
