‘Try and win the series’: YC welcomes in Del Campo today in rubber match

Yuba City High baseball went down to the former home of San Francisco Giants hometown hero Dusty Baker and got right with Del Campo Wednesday, earning a 3-2 win to equalize the series at one heading back home for the rubber match. Del Campo (7-13, 3-7 Foothill Valley League) and Yuba City (9-10, 7-4) will meet for the final time in league today Friday) at Winship Field (YCHS) starting at 6 ...

It all comes down to tonight at Winship Field. After a gritty 3-2 road victory on Wednesday, the Yuba City Honkers baseball team has leveled their series with Del Campo, setting the stage for a dramatic rubber match this Friday at 6 p.m.

The Honkers' win was a classic pitcher's duel, anchored by senior Brody Miller's complete-game gem. Miller was dominant on the mound, allowing zero earned runs over seven innings to secure his third win of the season. He also contributed at the plate, scoring and driving in a run, with juniors Cesar Guizar and Emilio Ramirez providing the crucial remaining RBI.

This victory snapped a three-game losing streak against Del Campo and keeps Yuba City (9-10, 7-4 FVL) firmly in the playoff hunt, just one game out of the top three in the Foothill Valley League. As head coach Maury Castaneda put it, the focus is simple: "We’re taking it one game at a time and playing Yuba City baseball to try and win the series."

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Sac-Joaquin Section, the Sutter Huskies continue to roll. Ranked No. 3 in Division V, they opened a series with Rio Linda with an emphatic 11-6 win, powered by multi-RBI days from Karter Johnson and Cole Callison. They look to carry that momentum into a key non-league showdown on Monday against a formidable Bradshaw Christian squad.

With the section playoffs looming in early May, every pitch and every game carries immense weight. For Yuba City, the path to the postseason runs directly through tonight's high-stakes finale against Del Campo.
