When Kansas City's own Slap's BBQ rolled into the White House this week, they brought more than just brisket and ribs. President Donald Trump welcomed the owners for a celebration of KC's legendary cuisine, but it didn't take long for the conversation to turn to the gridiron's biggest question mark: Patrick Mahomes' health.

"The most important thing, how's Mahomes doing? Is he OK?" Trump asked, cutting straight to what every Chiefs fan wants to know. The Slap's team offered reassurance: "He's OK."

But the President wasn't done. "How's Mahomes doing?! You tell the people we love him!" he declared, before pressing further: "So, do you think he'll be able to start Game 1?" The owners expressed cautious optimism, sharing their hope that the star quarterback will be ready when the 2026 season kicks off.

For context, Mahomes is currently deep in rehab after undergoing surgery to repair both his ACL and LCL in his left knee—injuries sustained late in the 2025 season. It's a major test for the two-time MVP, but he's been sharing his trademark determination, vowing to be back under center.

The good news? Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and GM Brett Veach have both reported that Mahomes is ahead of schedule in his recovery. For a franchise built around his arm, that's the kind of update that tastes better than any barbecue.
