The UConn Huskies football program has secured a promising new talent for the fall. On Tuesday, versatile athlete Troy Walson announced his commitment to the University of Connecticut, choosing the Huskies over offers from Fordham and the Virginia Military Institute.

Walson, who starred for Bruton High School in Williamsburg, Virginia, brings a unique two-way skill set to Storrs. While projected primarily as a tight end, his high school film tells the story of a true football player. In his senior season, he averaged an impressive 17.3 yards per catch, hauling in seven receptions for 121 yards. His junior year was even more productive, featuring 13 catches for 200 yards and an 18-yard touchdown.

But his value doesn't stop on offense. Demonstrating the kind of toughness and versatility coaches covet, Walson also made a significant impact on the defensive line. In ten games last season, he racked up 23 total tackles and recovered a fumble, proving he's not afraid to get physical in the trenches.

Adding to his athletic profile, Walson was also a contributor on the hardwood for the Bruton Panthers basketball team, averaging 4.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game as a senior. This multi-sport background often translates to superior coordination and competitive grit on the football field.

For UConn, landing a player of Walson's caliber represents a solid building block.
