The NJIC divisional track and field championships delivered a weekend of unforgettable performances at Emerson High School on April 27-28, with athletes rising to the occasion across every event.
Emmanuel Marin of Bogota was a standout, dominating the 400 intermediate hurdles with a winning time of 61.3 seconds. His powerful strides and precise technique over the barriers set the tone for a meet full of highlights.
In the distance events, Ana Michel showcased her endurance with a commanding victory in the 1600-meter run, while Hussain Salam and Raymond Ehrmann battled neck-and-neck in the 800-meter run just before the halfway mark. Zohaib Salam also made his mark, cruising to a win in the 1600 meters.
Sofia Kimbell delivered a crisp performance in the 100-meter high hurdles, taking the top spot with clean, aggressive form. Meanwhile, Emma Fowler demonstrated strength in the field events, putting the shot put with authority.
The championships also marked a historic moment for Bogota, as the team hosted its first home track meet at Joseph C. Feigel Field in more than 30 years. Head Coach Pat Rochford was seen just before the start, overseeing a milestone that brought new energy to the program. Palisades Park Head Coach Matt Travis was also on hand, adding to the community spirit of the day.
From the sound of spikes on the track to the roar of the crowd, this year's NJIC championships celebrated both athletic excellence and the return of a cherished tradition.
