As the tournament season heats up, the race for the Old Colony Memorial Athlete of the Week is getting even more competitive. Last week, Plymouth South softball star Kaylee Gendron dominated the polls, securing 53% of the vote after a standout performance on May 1. The junior was unstoppable in a 13-1 win over Hingham, crushing two home runs and earning the win in the circle. Thanks to her leadership, the Panthers are now 10-2 and hold a comfortable lead in the Patriot League title chase.
But the spotlight shifts this week, as a new crop of contenders steps up for the May 4-10 voting period. Coaches, don't forget to send your nominations to dwolcott@wickedlocal.com with a brief description of your athlete's achievements. Voting is unlimited and closes every Sunday at noon.
This week's nominees showcase incredible talent across multiple sports. On the baseball diamond, Polisky made his first varsity start one to remember, powering Plymouth South to a 1-0 shutout over Marshfield on May 7. The right-hander allowed just two hits and struck out six in a masterful performance.
On the softball side, Stasinos was equally dominant, pitching all five innings in a 16-2 rout of Scituate on May 7. She also delivered at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored.
In track and field, a trio of athletes placed first in the discus relay at the Division 3 MIAA state relays on May 3 at Oliver Ames High School. Davies stood out with a second-place overall throw of 118 feet, 2.75 inches.
Over on the tennis courts, a senior captain didn't drop a single game at first singles in recent wins over Quincy and Pembroke. The Panthers are now tied with Scituate atop the Fisher Division, making a strong push for a tournament berth.
In a dramatic softball showdown, Adair delivered a walk-off bunt in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal a 1-0 win over Whitman-Hanson on May 5. She also went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in a 4-1 win over North Quincy on May 1.
Finally, Meyer continues to shine in tennis, leading the way with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at first singles on May 5 as part of a 4-1 team win over Whitman-Hanson.
The poll includes athletes from Plymouth North, Plymouth South, and Rising Tide Charter School. Voting is unlimited and closes each Sunday at noon. Every vote counts as these athletes gear up for the postseason—make your voice heard!
