The Blue Jays are bringing up Yariel Rodriguez from the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons after a year of disappointing developments for him.

The Toronto Blue Jays are set to welcome back right-handed pitcher Yariel Rodriguez from Triple-A Buffalo, giving their battered pitching staff a much-needed boost. Injuries have wreaked havoc on Toronto's rotation and bullpen this season, with five starters either missing time or sidelined for the remainder of the year. The bullpen has been forced to shoulder extra innings despite its own struggles with depth.

High-leverage reliever Yimi Garcia, who underwent right elbow surgery in 2025, has yet to make his season debut but recently began a rehab assignment with the Florida Complex League Blue Jays. In the meantime, Toronto has turned to Rodriguez, a Cuban native who signed a five-year, $32 million contract with the Blue Jays ahead of the 2024 season after a three-year stint with the Chunichi Dragons of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball (2020-2022). Rodriguez sat out the 2023 season while pursuing an MLB contract.

Rodriguez's first year in Toronto was a struggle—he posted a 4.47 ERA over 21 starts in 2024, battling consistency and command issues. However, his recent performance at Triple-A Buffalo has been encouraging. Over 13.2 innings, he recorded a 2.63 ERA with 25 strikeouts, showing the kind of swing-and-miss stuff that made him an intriguing signing. According to Francys Romero, Rodriguez is expected to join the team ahead of a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays, which begins Monday at 7:07 p.m. ET at Rogers Centre.

For Blue Jays fans, this call-up offers a glimpse of hope. Rodriguez's strong Triple-A numbers suggest he may have found his rhythm, and his return could provide stability to a bullpen that has been stretched thin. Whether he slots into a relief role or builds toward a potential spot in the rotation, his resurgence is a storyline worth watching as Toronto fights to stay competitive in a tough AL East.
