The Indy Ignite’s historic season came to a heart-wrenching halt in the MLV championship semifinals, as the top-seeded squad fell to the Omaha Supernovas in a thrilling five-set battle, 25-22, 21-25, 27-29, 25-20, 15-13. After a record-setting 23-5 regular season that earned them the top seed, the Ignite couldn’t find that elusive 24th win to punch their ticket to the $1 million championship match.
It was a story of revenge for the Supernovas, who were eliminated by the Ignite in the 2025 semifinals as the tournament’s top seed. This time, Omaha turned the tables in dramatic fashion, snapping Indy’s momentum in a match that saw five lead changes and kept fans on the edge of their seats. The Ignite had dominated five-set matches during the regular season, going 3-1, with their only loss coming against—you guessed it—the Supernovas back on March 14.
Anna DeBeer and Azhani Tealer powered the Ignite offense with 16 kills each, with Tealer adding a double-double thanks to 14 digs and a .244 hitting percentage. Lydia Martyn was a force at the net, contributing 12 kills (.320) and six blocks. Setter Mia Tuaniga orchestrated the attack with 59 assists and 12 digs, but it was libero Elena Scott who stole the spotlight defensively, setting an MLV championship record with an incredible 27 digs.
Despite their best efforts, the Ignite couldn’t overcome the Supernovas’ resilience in the decisive fifth set. The loss marks a bitter end to a season that saw Indy rewrite the record books, but their run as regular-season champions will be remembered as a testament to their grit and talent. For now, the Supernovas advance to play for the title, while the Ignite are left to reflect on what might have been.
