The 2026 NFL Draft has come and gone, and the Houston Texans have plenty to feel good about. With eight new rookies on board and a handful of undrafted free agent gems, the roster is looking sharper. Positions like offensive line and safety now feel more complete, thanks to the influx of young talent.
But the work isn't done. As the dust settles on draft weekend, attention turns to the second wave of free agency—a critical time for teams to plug remaining holes. For the Texans, that means shoring up depth at running back, defensive end, and defensive tackle. The backfield, in particular, could use some reinforcement behind newly acquired David Montgomery.
General manager Nick Caserio has a history of bringing back familiar faces, so don't be surprised if he looks to reunite with former Texans. At the same time, he's always scanning the market for smart, budget-friendly additions that can make an immediate impact.
Here are 12 unsigned free agents who could be a perfect fit in Houston:
Derek Barnett – A fan favorite as the No. 3 pass rusher behind Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter, Barnett racked up 10 sacks over 22 games the past two seasons. He knows the system inside and out. A one-year "prove-it" deal makes all the sense in the world.
Joey Bosa – Now 31, Bosa has managed just 10 sacks over the last two seasons with the Chargers and Bills. But he's still a disruptive force when healthy. A rotational role on a contender like Houston could be the perfect next chapter for the veteran edge rusher.
Jadeveon Clowney – A reunion with the former No. 1 overall pick? Clowney has quietly built a solid career since leaving Houston in 2019. Last season in Dallas, he notched 8.5 sacks at age 33. He's still got gas in the tank and would add serious depth to any defensive line.
