The race for top basketball recruit Donovan Davis is heating up, and the Iowa Hawkeyes have made the final cut. The 2027 standout has narrowed his list to five schools and set a decision date that has fans across the Midwest on edge.

According to Rivals' Joe Tipton, Davis is down to Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Marquette. The 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward from Freedom High School in Wisconsin will announce his college commitment on Wednesday, May 6—a date circled on every recruiting calendar.

Davis is a blue-chip prospect with impressive credentials. Rivals ranks him as the No. 32 player nationally, the No. 10 small forward, and the No. 3 player in Wisconsin. 247Sports echoes that praise, placing him at No. 42 overall and No. 2 in the state. His junior season stats back up the hype: he averaged 21.7 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while shooting a scorching 70% from the field.

The Hawkeyes rolled out the red carpet for Davis with an official visit on April 15. When asked what he's looking for in a program, Davis told Rivals' Jamie Shaw: "I think my main factor in a school will be a coaching staff that has trust in me and allows me to be able to do what I can do. But I'm also looking for a team that's, like, family where they're always together, always helping other people, and just playing as a team."

Iowa first offered Davis on June 22, 2025, and landing him would be a major splash for a program still searching for its first 2027 class commitment. The Hawkeyes have already built momentum with their 2026 class, signing small forward Jaidyn Coon and forward Ethan Harris, while adding transfers guard Ty'Reek Coleman and center Andrew McKeever. A commitment from Davis would signal that Iowa is ready to compete for top-tier talent on the national stage.

With just days until his announcement, all eyes are on Davis as he prepares to pick his college home. Will the Hawkeyes seal the deal, or will a rival program steal this prized recruit? Stay tuned.
